My Early Years

I’ve always loved words.   Reading …. writing … it didn’t matter.   I even remember when I was a little girl reading a dictionary, or at least a part of it.   I think I learned at an early age the power of words, how they could tell a story and take you places, let you travel to a far off land or simply escape from daily life.   The more words you understood, the more you understood the world.    As I got older, I learned that I could actually write the words to tell the stories!  The old adage is “write what you know” and mostly what I know about is me.   So I write about my life and my experiences, my take on the world, crazy adventures and ordinary moments.

I also love creating and working with my hands.   I’m not really sure when it all started as I don’t remember being overly creative or artistic as a child.  I do remember when my youngest son was in 2nd grade I volunteered to help with a program called Art Corps, where I had to do art lessons with the kids periodically.   At first I was terrified and wondered what I had gotten myself into, but what I found is that not only was I able to do it, I learned to love it and it somehow opened up something inside of me.   One of my favorite things to do is re-purpose – to take something old and discarded and give it new life as something else or some new spin on it’s old one.   This leads to an accumulation of what my husband calls my “treasures”, but some of those treasures turn into wonderful things if given enough time!

I love to learn!  I have taken classes on creative writing and writing poetry, classes on upholstery, Indian cooking, welding, stained glass, cheese making, playing the ukelele,  and now a class on WordPress to help me with this blog!
